AISHA, P3/Process and final

the concept of our catalouge is building ..   so we create boxes above each other with highlights ..
and each one of us picked a color ...

  I picked Vibrating Pink
Sara picked Yellow
Najla Picked green

we had distinct approach of each of the following :
1- Colors
2- Images
3- writing the descriptive paragraph of each typeface
4- representing the arabic letters , where i write them in three different positions  { when its in the beginning of the word, in the middle and in the end with }

as a result .. this difference created an interesting approach where the audience will not get board while reading and looking through it ..

and this is sample of our catalogue

AISHA, P3/Process

THis is the typeface research that i did for the Typeface catalogue ..

Aisha, p3 Introduction

Project brief :
A group project where we have to establish a link between our previous catalogue and the new one that we are doing .. which is a typeface catalogue
The typeface catalogue should contain both arabic and Latin ... each typeface would describe and represent the lifestyle chosen ...

GROUP MEMBERS  :   ME, SARA Q,  NAJLA

AISHA, P2.1 Process G

after that ...  i tried with so many grids  varied from the complex ones to the simple ones .. .
i  finally decided to pick the simple folding with one cut on the side..  so the people will not have trouble with opening the catalogue  and it wouldnt take so much time from them ...

After the critque ..  i figured out that i have mistakes  .. and i didnt like what am doing .. beucase there wasnt a stable system in my catalogue... so i did it all over again ..

First i thought that the system is only how the catalogue looks ,, but then i knew that it's about what does it contains ...

so I picked two  catagories  for each life styles ...  and under each catagory there are three images ..  these images ranks from  FOR EXAMPLE  .. expensive to cheap ..  and so on ..

I  included the persona for each lifestyle ..  and a quote of the same person .. and in the back  i created a scenario by using a sentence that describes the person's hobby or activity..  and an image that symbolizes the scene.

and this is the Back of it ..  where the scenario is ..

AISHA, p2.1 Process/e

so i  picked  5 lifestyles  which are :

Teenager
kids
Healthy
Elegant
Businessman
--------------------

First when i was experimenting, I thought that we have to use all of the pictures, so i was pretty scared, till things were clear the next day when peter explained more about it .. .

this is my first attempt .. where i placed images that resemble ELEGANT life-style

--------------

I carried it further  and developed each lifestyle, and  I specify each one of them with a certain color...

i picked green for healthy because green resembles growth, joyful, health, and happiness.
Black for businessman because it's kind of mysterious and dominant over all of the colors, as they said " black is the king of colors"  and "the a good business man is the king of the market"  <---  it's known in our slung language where we say it alot.

After deciding each lifestyle and it's images with color...  we were asked to do the catalouge with some limitations ...
the limitations and rules are :

-50x60 cm
- 2 sided
-CMYK 4 colors
- 4 folds
- must fit in 21x26 cm envelop
 cutting is allowed ..

 to be continued ..

AISHA, P2.1 Process/c-Research part

I was so confused between lifestyle and a personality, so in order to clear out things in my mind, I did a research to have enough knowledge about this matter and start to build up my life-styles.

Personality is the complex of all the attributes--behavioral, temperamental, emotional and mental--that characterize a unique individual.
it is also A set of qualities that make a person (or thing) distinct from another; An assumed role or manner of behavior or  qualities that make a person stand out from the crowd.

Personality Also is the supreme realization of the innate idiosyncrasy of a living being. It is an act of high courage flung in the face of life, the absolute affirmation of all that constitutes the individual, the most successful adaptation to the universal condition of existence coupled with the greatest possible freedom for self-determination.”

Personality comes from the Greek word "persona", meaning "mask"

The word ‘personality’ derives from the Latin word ‘persona’ which means ‘mask’. The study of personality can be understood as the study of ‘masks’ that people wear. These are the personas that people project and display, but also includes the inner parts of psychological experience which we collectively call our ‘self’.

While A life style is

A way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group:
Usage Note: When lifestyle became popular a generation ago, a number of critics objected to it as voguish and superficial, perhaps because it appeared to elevate habits of consumption, dress, and recreation to categories in a system of social classification. Nonetheless, the word has proved durable and useful, if only because such categories do in fact figure importantly in the schemes that Americans commonly invoke when explaining social values and behavior, as in Rachel Brownstein's remark that "an anticonventional lifestyle is no sure sign of feminist politics, or indeed, of any politics at all." Fifty-three percent of the Usage Panel accepts the word in Bohemian attitudes toward conventional society have been outstripped and outdated by the lifestyles of millions of young people. An even greater numberfully 70 percentaccepts the word in Salaries in the Bay Area may be higher, but it may cost employees as much as 30 percent more to maintain their lifestyles, where the context requires a term that implies categorization based on habits of consumption.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With all of this research, I figured out that there is a huge difference between a life style and a personality,
 lifestyle is really abroad while personality is really so narrow and specific;
A personality can be classified under certain lifestyle; Example :  if we picked the teenager lifestyle, we can see that teenagers lifestyle is really abroad, and if we picked GEEK personality it would narrow it down, because we specified the personality.

this is just my opinion and what i have understood  :D

Aisha, P2.1 Process/b

at the same day of this cretique ..  we did a small shritte, and we have been put into groups.

MISSION:
- Take the images { 10 categories }  and re-arrange them according to life-style.
My group members :

Fatma J
Asma
Sahwa

After looking into the images that we had..
we made a decision about the life styles

1- old people.
2- Mature
3- teenager
4- old people.

After this exercise we have been assigned to pick 5 life styles  and we were allowed to use any of the girls images.

AISHA, P2.1/process.a

As I said previously, we have to take 100 images; 10 for each category you have.

My catagories are classified into the five given ones, and the five that i have chosen:

1- food
2-phones
3-cars
4-Furniture { Tables
5- Clothes
6- folders
7-color pens.
8- Plastic Bags.
9- Ribbons.
10- Frames.
---------------------

Those are the images ..

After the critique of the images,  i observed how each girl is thinking different and taking images from diffrent. angle of the same subject matter.

We also have been told that for the catalouge we can use each other's images, which i found it really helpful.

- Note:  some of the images were not well taken .. so if you need to reshoot any of them,, JUST DO IT !

Fatma J, P2.1 Process/b

after the last Critique, we had the chance to retake our photos in terms of Quality or angles.
but i didn't retake mine because i want to know how far my ability can go with the things i did so far. Do i really need to retake some photos? i didn't feel the urge to do so however.

we were put into groups at this day
and were told to take out photos and arrange them according to life-style

Team members:
Aisha
Fatma Jassim (me)
Sahwa
Asma

Life Style we decided are:
1-Childhood
2- Teenagers
3-Working age
4-Old

and took all the 10 Categories 10x10= 100 <<>

after the tiring exercise, we were told, again, to do the same task but individually. However, this time, we have the access to use classmate's images to come up with 5 different lifestyles

But, we don't have to use 10 images to describe the lifestyle
but the only thing we must be and have: is Divergence!

Project (2) Brief

This project requires to do a catalogue that depends on things used usually or in everyday life as a lifestyle.
So The catalogue is not  looking as a catalogue of objects; but more of a catalogue of a lifestyle.
This catalogue does not include special days as the previous projects, because the one of the catalogue purposes is introducing audience to a certain lifestyle, which is a method of everyday living is done.
This project will take Five weeks !<-- dont  be Happy -_- "
because you have to Organize your time and set the last week as the production week or you will be stepping behind.
The number of pages and pictures depends on you concept and it will be developed during the process.
How to Do the Catalogue?
come from different angles and aspects for the lifestyle; do not think of the lifestyle right away.
Look deep into the artifacts, ex: if you are doing cars, look to tiers aspects for instance, to the numbers, the function of it , or who use this type of cars usually.
While doing the catalogue and researching, try to avoid stereotype.
Go look and observe artifact that people use and have. Look into details, ask people how do they look into this objects; what are their points of view?

Example:
If you are looking to a certain classification of artifacts such as clothing,  do not be narrow and look only to what is in your closet, go out, explore and diverse.
This exploring and diverging exercise will help in learning how to observe one kind of artifact and search various types of this object.
Example :
if you are searching for something that you can sit on.
It can be Sofa, regular chair, wood chair, etc.
The less plan you have to do your artifacts research is the better.

What to do?
Take photographs for these five classifications:
1- Cloth
2- food
3- phones
4- Furniture
5- cars

and other five categories that you come up with.

REMEMBER:
The resolution of the images = 300 dpi/ TIFF/ CMYK/ 8x8 cm.

Final 1-

This is my final result after some fixations :

A- Making the horizontal lines lighter.
B- Making the vertical lines white instead of black.

Final feedback

During the final critique, I gained the benefit of some of the feedbacks and I knew what I have to change so that the calendar would me more clear.

What they comment about is the horizontal lines that organize the upper and lower part and the vertical lines that separate each day.

So what i did in order for people to understand my calendar more, is that I made the horizontal lines thinner, although some of the girls told me to get rid of it, but I think that it organizes my variable and makes my calendar easy to read without getting confused while reading the variables.
Also I changed the vertical lines that separate the days into white to create a negative space in the calendar.
In addition to this,  I added a box that tells the audience about the color mood and what does it mean.

Final/1

This is pretty much my final form of the calendar.

I would print it as continuos and again I divided it into weeks, because when people do diet it makes it easier and looks shorter if it is sit in weeks rather than months.

Color Processing

After choosing the color green as the dominant color for my calendar, I tested the color green with different shades and values.
Here is my simple green color study.

comprehensive Sketches (3)

This is a phase of my calendar. Here I tried to show days by mapping the mood in the lower part with different green shades.
For example, the heavy green says that this person in that day feels healthy, with little bit of laziness and feeling of heaviness.  While the light green means that the person feels healthy and light because she/he follows the rules and loses excess and unwanted weight. So they feel more enthusiastic about continuing the diet and keeping it forward.

In addition to this, each group of lines, in the upper part,  resembles an activity, like going to restaurant,  free day, chocolate day, weight day, and so on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a close up image of what is displayed above, in case it was not seen.

------------------------------------------------------

After discussing with Peter,  He said that the small lines in the upper part are confusing
Also, he commented on the mood, because it's fixed, and the days should be more divide for people to read easily.

Processing

Because everything get so mixed in my mind,  I did a rough sketch about what am thinking of, What is special in this calendar " days, Hours ? " , how I can represent it " Lines, shapes ?"

So,  My calendar will be divided into units that represent days. The upper part of the calendar will contain the activity that take place in that day, and the lower part will be colored, which represent the day.
The calendar will have special days in it. For example, there is a weight day at the beginning of the diet, the middle and at the end. There will be also exercise days, three times a week  AT LEAST.  So much so, there will be free day, go to restaurant day, chocolates day, and juice/soft drinks day.
All of these days will take place in the calendar, because I think that they are important days to have in the calendar so the person who do diet wont break the diet's rule.

Also I thought about the color, and what color would suit my concept and system.
The color green was my choice.  Because Green resembles health, growth, progress, happiness, motivation and self-confidence.

I also discussed my idea with Peter and he organized with me what I should include and should not include.  Also  he told me that the calendar could be more personalized based in my own experience, because I've been through various diets and  he said  it's more like mapping.  Also, he said that it is important to map the mood and does it change during the diet.

comprehensive Sketches (2)

Those are my initial sketches for my calendar.

in the first sketch I was thinking of doing my calendar as an one unit calendar, where the lower part would be specified to write down some no
tes for each day.  The measuring tape is classified by four parts, each part resembles a week of the diet.  But then I asked my self How I can write what to do in each day? ...  it's difficult because people will not be able to know what they have to do in that day.

The second Sketch is more specified than the first one. I was thinking of making a continous  measuring tape  that can be folded. The measuring tape has four different parts, each part would represented like week, and a week would be divided into seven parts, which stands for the days.

process and thinking C

This  time I was thinking  about an object that can be related to diet and can be beneficial for my calendar.
So i thought about a measuring tape, because personally and as usual when you do diet, you have to measure different parts of your body, such as the hips, hands, and so on.
I looked for images of a measuring tape that is used to measure body parts, and I tried to analyze what does it have.

First  I researched what is a measuring tape?
So, what is a measuring tape ?  ....
is a flexible form of ruler. It consists of a ribbon of cloth, plastic, fiber glass, or metal strip with
linear-measurement markings with Metric units and sometimes additionally imperial units. It is a common measuring tool.  It 's  flexibility allows for a measure of great length to be easily carried in pocket or toolkit and permits one to measure around curves or corners.

This is a measuring tape that is defined by two measuring units.

This is a measuring tape, which is defined by one measuring units which is Inches.

Therefore, I decided to do my calendar as a measuring tape that could be easily to understand.

process and thinking

For the calender,  I was thinking of doing the calendar like cards.
Each card would resemble what the person have to eat in that day.  Like for example, It would be classified by cards.  4 cards and each card would represent each week of the diet month.
For example, the first card would be in the shape of an apple, the second card would be in the shape of another Healthy food, and so on.

But then, i remembered that we are not allowed to use any representative or  outlined  shapes.
So I thought again about doing something that could represent my idea and has a system in it.

I thought  of doing a calendar that is continuos, easy to understand and carry.

still thinkiiiinnng !! ...
