Process 1.5

Ok, this has been hard, and confusing at the same time. The problem is that I cant go simple when the project requires me too. I keep complicating things, so after i had the talk with peter and have decided on the form of my calender, I thought about how to make my idea clearer and more focused on one thing. instead of many, thanks to peter he helped me figure out what i can focus on. my initial idea was to concentrate on the child's growth and all, but I didn't realize that that could take up so much time and energy, and plus it would be confusing. so i instead focused on nutrition and kind of based the calender on the growth of that area. i focused then on 4 things: 1. breast milk. 2. formula milk. 3. pureed food. 4 solid food. those are some of my sketches that i have been working on. while brainstorming my idea out.
if you look here, you will see a crayon pen and then circles beside it. the crayon symbolized the growth of the child. and i wanted to use the organic parts that made the crayon represent the months, and the circles represent the days.

here are some notes i kept
documenting about what i was
doing so that i wouldn't lose them.
and id keep track of my process.

at the end of all this. i had to change it because my sketches were too abstract and too representative. oh how i wish there was no such thing as abstract :P...anyway i had to survive that bump.

process 1.1/d

Here are some sketches that I did to figure out my system.

Purpose-Educates children and teach them order.
Order- of days (which day comes first)
               Order-of month
               Order-of seasons(which season comes first)

-learn how to count

Calendar-----> 4 parts----->Winter,spring,summer,fall
-One symbol for each season -

Guidelines-lines
-reaches from the corners to the days-it would teach children order by measuring.
-it helps children to follow and learn which day comes before the other.

Color Processing

After choosing the color green as the dominant color for my calendar, I tested the color green with different shades and values.
Here is my simple green color study.

Processing

Because everything get so mixed in my mind,  I did a rough sketch about what am thinking of, What is special in this calendar " days, Hours ? " , how I can represent it " Lines, shapes ?"

So,  My calendar will be divided into units that represent days. The upper part of the calendar will contain the activity that take place in that day, and the lower part will be colored, which represent the day.
The calendar will have special days in it. For example, there is a weight day at the beginning of the diet, the middle and at the end. There will be also exercise days, three times a week  AT LEAST.  So much so, there will be free day, go to restaurant day, chocolates day, and juice/soft drinks day.
All of these days will take place in the calendar, because I think that they are important days to have in the calendar so the person who do diet wont break the diet's rule.

Also I thought about the color, and what color would suit my concept and system.
The color green was my choice.  Because Green resembles health, growth, progress, happiness, motivation and self-confidence.

I also discussed my idea with Peter and he organized with me what I should include and should not include.  Also  he told me that the calendar could be more personalized based in my own experience, because I've been through various diets and  he said  it's more like mapping.  Also, he said that it is important to map the mood and does it change during the diet.

involving the viewer more

Ordinary calendars involve the audience looking and at the most flipping a page. The best calendars I have seen require and encourage the viewer to interact with the document.

Different interactions could be:
Peeling layers away

Forming a jigsaw puzzle

Coloring in a specific space

Filling in personal information

Popping bubble wrap

I would like my viewer to be involved with their calendar, if this is at all possible. However I must admit that I think the most important function of a calendar is to inform, so if an interaction is not possible then it is not so much of a big deal...

P 1.1 Process/d

The idea of presenting/perceiving semesters in months compared to weeks didn't occur to me at the beginning until I discussed it with Peter. Perception varies from person to person, according to how they were taught, their background along with other aspects.

Design students have different mechanisms that help them survive the semester, therefore
presenting WEEKS of a semester seemed to make more sense since we do perceive it as a whole as oppose to pieces and parts.
