P2 process: Lifestyle VS Personality

Lifestyle
The way of life.
The way a person lives that reflects
the attitudes and values of a person
or group of people. The objects play
the main role here.

Personality
The way. The way a person behaves
in his/her lifestyle; the quality,
character, behavior and trait of a
person. This could also apply to a
space/place. The objects usage/
customization plays the main
role here.

P2 process work/ class notes

Notes in class/beginning the project:
. 4-5 weeks
. A catalog

content we will develop together
the catalog size and content will come back to me
audience and everything else is up to me+number of pictures
we have to use photographs

. CMYK
. 300 dpi
. TIFF

Pointers for starting off:
identify purpose of catalog
a catalog is there for us to choose things from and learn information about things + objects.

Organize my stuff and manage our time for production
keep one week for production.

notes about how and why the blog is important:
. map the essential parts of your process, every 3 to 4 days.
. reflect, look at the process - document it.

product--------------pool
process

the more i understand the process, the more i will trust it and go with it, and not start with the end product.

meta cognition: is thinking about thinking.

what limitations do i have?
. audience
. public Vs private
. content/up to date
. current
. reflective process
. communication process/purpose
. organize

things to think about...

questions:

how far do we go in building our lifestyle and how specific should we be?

think about our images in different dimensions

allow the images to shape the lifestyle

sort all artifacts into lifestyles

divide them into subcategories

use this system of subcategories and apply to other lifestyles

P2.1 Process/a

Project 2: Catalogue

- Design a catalogue based on Lifestyles.
- Content will be developed during the process.
- Size of catalogue and number of pages is based on the process and the content.
- All images used in the catalogue must be 300 dpi.

First Step:
- Take photographs of artifacts.
- 5 categories provided: clothes, car, phone, food, and furniture
- Come up with 5 of your own categories. ( my categories are: bottles, car keys, book pile, stationary, and bags)
- Crop the photographs in 8cm by 8cm square.
- Cut all photographs separately.

Analyze and observe different lifestyles.

Personaliy Vs Lifestyle

We were asked what is the difference between lifestyle and personality. They are two different things that can be easily misunderstood and up till now i don't know weather i can differentiate between them or not.
but for me a lifestyle is a way of living and people judge in large numbers based on lifestyles. they can be considered to be from the different lifestyle group but they can have a different personality.
so personality for me means individuality a way how a person thinks and reacts.

The Begining P2

The first step find things to Photograph, that is the first task we had to do so while discussing the breif in class i felt that every one was feeling confused some how. But as soon as the categories taht was given to us i felt i sense of releif so we had 5 common categories which are:
Food
Phones
Clothes
Furniture
Cars
and they can be anything that i can think of when taking pictures of these categories but adding to that we had to add 5 more categories and for me i wanted to think of things the other students wont think of of so i tried and the 5 i came up with are :
Mugs
Rings
Necklaces
Shoe soles
Scarfs
but i was not very successful with the choice of diversity in those choices but i thought that the shoe soles was the best one out of these 5.
It was quiet challenging to go around to take pictures especially in the malls but i tried to get the best out of those photos and experience.

Najla, p2 process/a,

Projest 2: Phase 3:
after taking the (100 pictures) and doing the exercise in class ,now i have to create 5 lifestyles from all class pictures.
We all know what a lifestyle is but i wanted to think about it more and see different definitions of lifestyle. I dont want to stick to what i already know.

resreach:

history - i was just curious to know: Lifestyle was originally created by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler in 1929.
This term is used in: Politics, advertising and marketing, psychology and sociology.

Definition:
  • In sociology, a lifestyle is the way a person lives.
A lifestyle is a characteristic bundle of behaviors that makes sense to both others and oneself in a given time and place, including social relations, consumption, entertainment, and dress. The behaviors and practices within lifestyles are a mixture of habits, conventional ways of doing things, and reasoned actions. A lifestyle typically also reflects an individual's attitudes, values or worldview.

  • the lines between personal identity and the everyday doings that signal a particular lifestyle become blurred in modern society.[3]For example, "green lifestyle" means holding beliefs and engaging in activities that consume fewer resources and produce less harmful waste (i.e. a smaller carbon footprint), and deriving a sense of self from holding these beliefs and engaging in these activities.

Artifact: (archaeology), any object made or modified by a human culture, and later recovered by an archaeological endeavor
  1. Social artifact, a product of individuals or groups (social beings) or of their social behavior
  2. Cultural artifact, a human-made object which gives information about the culture of its creator and users

My next step is to make visual research

P2.1 Process/a

Project 2
  • We will be doing a catalog, but the content we will be develop overtime.
  • The size and the number of pages will depend on the content.
  • It has a 300 dpi/Tiff CMYK
  • 120 px/8x8cm
  • pay attention on the content i develop.
  • this will be divided into three phases the content, design and production.
Catalog of life style -
  • We are people who sleep and wake up and do different things....> its an ideaof everyday living.
  • its a documentation.
  • as a designer, as an observer, to take innovatory.
  • as designers we can embed info, utilize size and image form.
To Do -
  • Start looking for artifacts (objects)
  • look out and observe. Think about what are you looking for in artifacts
  • look at the artifacts that people have.
Artifacts -
  1. clothing
  2. furniture
  3. care
  4. food
  5. phone
*and 5 more of my choice
  1. Wallets
  2. shoes

In class notes-

Things we have to do to learn more about this project

engage with content-we have to show different diversity of each image ..we have to observe more look at each others images to figure out the differences and similarities..

From todays class I learned that each one of us has a different personality,, we have different interests and perspective...which is really interesting ..

Observing-is another point that would lead us through this project..
one way of doing that is to go out and taking images of different things, explore and more ...

Is personality the same as life styles or is it different?

Different students collages shows different personalities and the collages are based on life styles therefore different personalities are based on different life styles ...

Whats our objective and whats our method?

What I actually did for this 100 images ..

At first I thought of the artifacts..
I listed down  the 10 different artifacts

after that I though of things that interests me and things that doesn't ..beacuse I believe that having things that I do not really admire would make my collage more challenging and interesting...

so i started writing the artifacts down and as soon as I am done with that I went out and took different images of each artifact...

Then I narrowed the images down to 10 for each artifact..I printed them out and cut them ...

That was basically it:>

dero, P2.1 Observing

I went outside, I wanted to absorb different lifestyles, for me, I always look at people's faces and love seeing their different expressions and how they react.. We need to search for different objects represent different lifestyles, for instance, shoes, food, furniture, and phones..etc..

*
The purpose from this excerise is to find many details about different lifestyles that people don't notice, because its around them 24/7.. after observing the surroundings, we will be able to create a catalog that would help the users to choose their own lifestyle, mix and match to create their own lifestyle.

* It's going to be
printed at the end as a final product.

*
My categories are:

- Food
- Clothing
- Furniture
- cars
- phones

- handwriting changed to "language" shows diversity
- Buildings
- Fabric
- Lights
- accessories

P2.1 PROCESS/a

In-Class notes:

-Experimentation leads to final products
-Subtle differences make a difference
-IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS, what make each different (brand, function, size, color...etc)
-Have a category (cars) and a subcategory (sports car) and maybe you can have a sub-sub category of that!

Next Class goals:-Create diversity.
-Analyze.
-Image Quality (reshoot some photographs if not satisfied, or replace)
-COMPLETE and organized.
One last note: PAY ATTENTION to INDIVIDUALITY and LIFESTYLES.
