In Sociology, objects have no inherent meaning, human beings give (attribute) meanings to objects and processes.
Dealing with Calendars in such an abstract way is pretty challenging and somehow intriguing.
First I looked up the word Calendar online and got this:
- A chart or series of pages showing the days, weeks and months of a particular year, or giving particular seasonal information.
- A system by which the beginning, length and subdivisions of the year are fixed.
- A timetable of special days or events of a specified kind or involving a specified group.
Considering collected materials and some of the things mentioned in class:
- controlled manipulation of variables and constants.
- Deliberate choice of what to look at.
I started thinking of typical calendars that I regularly use, university calendar, Gregorian and Hijri Calendar and thought about doing a calendar for graphic design students. A calendar for the current spring semester, marking important dates like the ecograda conference and the spring break and other events.
After contributing in a group map with Asma, Esra, Sara Q., Mario and Abeer, I decided to do a calendar that is more focused in itself. An art calendar first came to my mind; showing steps of how an art work evolves whether that be a sculpture or a painting, the process it there. I googled it and from that I approached my final concept that I’m working on at the moment. A process calendar.
All human beings go through process one way or another, whether they are aware of it or not.
My target audience are those who are working under a structured process.
Using different materials:
- pens
- brushes
- pictures
- collages
in a non linear way, as long as your mind is set to what you are doing, you’ll mark exactly where you are on that calendar.
