AL Doha Printing Press

Printing stages:

-Pre-press
Size correction,Type correction,Color correction...etc

-printing
printing and prepare the document to press

-post press
Where they do the binding and cover and finish the whole thing.

Last wednesday we went to the Doha Printing press,We saw the whole process of printing. As we arrived there  they took us to the pre press department where they showed us how they fix the document before printing it.

They showed us how the open the document in in design and how they prepare it for printing.

Things I learned:

-Its better to export the in design doc. as a single page( when they print they prepare one template)

-We have to give the printer a Mock-up of our catalogue with the CD So the printer knows the order.

-Always consider paper.

-Blade all the centers

-CMYK,is better for printing. Its much cheaper too.But if we decided  to print pantone colors we must have our pantone book with us to show them.

-When they do color separation sometimes they find a color missing.

-The best format for printing is Tiff.

-The min. quantity for printing is 500 copies!
They can't print a single copy.
200 or 500 copies the cost is the same.

-Type of paper- Matt 100 gg
                            Matt 120 gg-Art mat

-In the printing press they print front and back

Camera Department:

They do correction there for images (fix mistakes)
They manually  do the color separation
They use four plates CMYK

Printing press department:

They do all the printing there and prepare it for binding.
